Were you aware that there are sound metallurgical reasons why some forged frames are preferable than products joined by TIG/welding? LIGHTWAVE manufactures both types of frames, but here we will specifically address forged frames. LIGHTWAVE does manufacture some rather unique TIG/welded frames. Forgingson a molecular level have a grain structure has been "realigned". A feature that is not possible with conventional tubing that has welded joints. There are a few other features and benefits that we would like to point out: 1. PRODUCTION of these frames actually saves a lot of time. There is none of the tubing preparation (T/Tube-D/Tubes-S/Tubes/H-Tube/BB shell) e.g. tube length cutting, tube chemical dip for anti-oxidation, tube end mitering, and special welding jigs-tooling-and fixtures all necessary steps to welding frames. None of these steps are needed with a LIGHTWAVE design forged frame! 2. QUALITY As with any welded frame-from any country, hand welded frames are unfortunately radically inconsistent. Some are quite good and in the same batch, pinholes-weld starvation and poor alignment is possible. Welded frames are always manufactured by hand. Not so with the LIGHTWAVE frames. There is no welding or bonding done. Forging with the extreme high-pressures that we use result in frames with quality that is quite high, always quite consistent, always quite level! Unacceptable tube lengths necessary for certain frame sizes and precise frame alignment are no longer issues as forged frames are made from a mold with extremely consistent quality alignment standards. 3. VALUE This forged construction is simultaneously more economical in production and more reasonable value.. Forged frames are also more economical from a material standpoint. Less material is wasted using this forged construction technique. Consequently, the need for a lot of frame production staff is eliminated. Cutting tubes, mitering precise angles, TIG welding and post production frame alignment are not needed. 4. DESIGN Welded frames limit you as to manufacturing frames with a limited choice of tubes(shapes-designs, S/stays-C/stays-h/tubes) all of which are basically round. Sure, there are many special ways to flatten, ovalize, and reshape round tubing. But a LIGHTWAVE frame has a unique infinite choice of shapes - designs - options making your dreams become reality. A full CNC monocoque frame is feasible as are the use of countless intricate rectangular, ovalized tube shapes, special "ladder" & "honeycomb" designs In conclusion, LIGHTWAVE engineers have a lot of experience and talent.
